Thoughts from pastor on today's service

...who for us men and for our salvation...

Our Good Friday contemplation focuses on the Scriptures that reveal to us the purpose of the cross, upon which Jesus endured agony, suffering, and death on our behalf. No one who was there to witness it could have known the full extent of God's plan of salvation.  It needed to be revealed to them.  God's Word does that for us.

The readings are lengthy.  But it is good for us to spend time in the Word.  More than we do.  If you believe that you cannot commit to the order of service in one sitting, then may I suggest spreading it out over the day?  Consider taking up just one reading and one hymn at different intervals throughout the daytime and after completing those, the homily in the early evening, and the prayer at the close of the day.  In this way you can set your eyes on Jesus all day long and ponder continuously on what He sees from the cross.

Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
